Went to see The Nice guys with a friend. I was eager to see the film, Shane Black is cool in my book. At age 22 he sold his script Lethal Weapon for 250 000 which is definitely one of my favorite films. It was the perfect action film, it had humor, action, great dialogue, Mel Gibson and Danny Glover were a perfect match. You can watch it several times, it has that magic.
He also played Hawkins in one of my favorite films sci-fi classic Predator.
Shane Black was the golden boy of the 90s .He set a record in 1990 for getting 1,75 million for Bruce Willis flick The Last Boy Scout after that he topped it and sold his script Long Kiss Goodnight for 4 million in 1996.
After the pressure and spotlight, he withdrew from Hollywood for years. He came back with his terrific directorial debut Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang in 2005 starring Robert Downey Jr. He wrote and directed Iron Man 3 in 2013.
Even before I checked the trailer I knew had to see this film, Shane Black writing and directing, Joel Silver producing! Cool, 70s Los Angeles settings with Russel Crowe and Ryan Gosling. This movie had to be great, no doubt about it.
In the film, they play private eyes who start looking for a girl named Amelia. Gosling´s character is a single dad private investigator who likes to drink and Crowe beats up people for a living. Perfect pair.
I loved the film since it started. Watching the year 1977 on the big screen with the 70s music, the awesome cinematography. It had whole 70s feel to it. The soundtrack was cool, I love 70s disco. The dialogue was something else. Shane Black does it well, he has nice sense of humor and knows how to write comedy, the jokes work.
I had so much fucking fun watching the film, laughed many times and wanted many times to jump out my seat and shout. I never had that kind of a feeling in the theater. It was one hell of a ride for sure.
Both Russel and Gosling play out together nicely. It was entertaining to watch, I felt like I was part of the film. It felt like Lethal Weapon, it had the same vibe and energy. Movies like these you don’t see anymore at the box office. Style of film that is dying breed.
I can definitely see a franchise here like Lethal Weapon series. You just want more of those guys and watch their relationship evolve. Definitely keeping my fingers crossed.
Do yourself a favor, gather your friends and go see this film.
